Weakley County Center
for Adult and Continuing Education is dedicated to empowering undereducated
adults of all racial and ethnic backgrounds and assisting them to achieve
economic self-sufficiency. Furthermore,
our mission is to provide the educational environment which will allow
opportunities for maximizing the potential of all the citizens of Weakley
County for assuming their roles as contributing members of a complex and changing
society.

Commencement 2011
The Weakley County Center for Adult and Continuing Education held its commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Watkins Auditorium at the Boling University Center at the University of Tennessee Martin. Reverend Gene Price gave the invocation, and then a welcome was given by Mr. Mitchell Parham, Supervisor of Adult Education. Mr. Craig Rogers provided a musical selection, and then the Valedictorian Justin Arnold and Salutatorian Hazel Purdum were introduced. Individual awards were given to the following students: Vernon Dunn Learner of the Year, Sorayda Bills; Warrior Award, Chris Leyhue; Perseverance Award, Jacqueline Johnson; and, Adult High School Achiever, Gene Leonard. Awards were also given for outstanding scores on each subtest of the GED: Writing, Megan Jann, Amanda Fisher, Jessika Clements; Social Studies, Tylor Langley, Cody Bell, Michele White; Science, Adam Marlar, Ashton Milan, Stormy Ortiz; Reading, Justin Arnold, Hazel Purdum, Justin Rockett; and Math, Bradley Stockdale, Justin Owens, Patrick Kline.

At the conclusion of the commencement exercise, graduates, their families and their friends were invited to a reception in the ballroom at the student center.
The staff and faculty at the Adult Learning Center include Mr. Howard Allen, Ms. Shirley Callis, Ms. Elizabeth Dinwiddie, Ms. Dawn Gearin, Ms. Joyce Hale, Mr. Michael Harrelson, Ms. Pamela Janes, Mr. Bradley Rich, Mr. Jerry Simmons, Ms. Diane Saunders, and Ms. Gale Warren. Randy Frazier boasts that
the Weakley County School system has one of the best Adult Basic Education programs
in the state of Tennessee. “We are
preparing our adult learners for transitioning into the labor market or higher
academic or vocational training. We are
reaching higher levels of learning every day.”

Mr. Jerry P.
Simmons presents a check to Mr. Mitchell Parham, Director of Adult Education,
on behalf of the Bank of Gleason. The Adult Learning Center is very
appreciative to the Bank of Gleason for its long time support and advocacy of
adult education in Weakley County.

"Hitch your wagon to a star and the sky is
the limit" is the school motto that is painted on the wall in the Center
commons is a reminder to all students that there is no limit to what one can
accomplish is he/she will only believe in his/her abilities and strive to
succeed.

Welcome to the Weakley County Adult Learning Center’s
GED Program! We want to congratulate
you on your decision to pursue your education. Our purpose is to assist you toward your
educational goals, and we hope your attendance here will be a pleasant and positive
experience. Please feel free to contact your instructor or one of
the staff if you have any questions or concerns. Our office phone number is 731 – 364 –
5481; our office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Individuals are typically striving to earn a GED,
prepare for college, obtain a better paying job, or just refreshing their
skills. Remember, whatever the case,
we are committed to helping you achieve that goal! I want to commend you on taking an

Classes will
be held at the Weakley County Center for Adult and Continuing Education (ALC)
located at 8250 Highway 22 in Dresden.
Students are asked to enroll and attend orientation prior to attending
classes. Enrollment will begin on
Monday, August 8 with day classes beginning August 8 and night classes
beginning September 13.
· To enroll in GED classes for August,
please call and make an appointment as soon as possible.
· To enroll in classes for September,
please call and make an appointment for September 6, 7 or 8 testing
and September 9th orientation.
· To enroll for October classes, please
call and make an appointment for October 4, 5 or 6 testing and October 7th
orientation.
· To enroll in November classes, please
call and make an appointment for November 8, 9 or 10 testing and November 11th orientation.

· Classes will be held at the Weakley
County Center for Adult and Continuing Education (ALC) located at 8250 Highway
22 in Dresden.
· Fall classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. and
conclude at 3:00p.m. Night classes will
begin on September 13 at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m.
